EUNICE-A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Monday, September 08, 2008 at 11:00 am at the Church of Annunciation in Duralde for Vurman L.J. LaFleur, 77, who passed away on Tuesday, September 02, 2008 at the VAMC Hospital in Alexandria. Rite of Committal will follow in the Ashford Cemetery in Duralde with Father Cedric Sonnier officiating.
L.J. retired from the United States Army as a Master Sergeant after 30 years of dedicated service. A loving husband, father, step-father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, L.J. is survived by his wife, Betty A. LaFleur of Duralde; two daughters, Angie Tressler and husband, Daniel of Maryland, Gabbi Sicard and husband, Mike of Michigan; two brothers, Ray LaVergne of Houma, Hank Ardoin of Jennings; one sister, Thelma Rhodes and husband, Don of Houma; fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild; six step-children, Andrew Cormier, Jr. of Winnie, Tx, June Sonnier and husband Toby of Orange, Tx, Liz Carrier and husband Paul and Curtis Cormier and wife, Lisa both of Eunice, Chris Cormier and wife Rebecca of Basile and Shelley Fontenot and husband James of Kinder.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Vurley LaFleur; step-son, Craig Cormier; and beloved aunt, Mazie Arnaud.
L.J. will truly be missed by all but mostly his grandchildren of whom he loved so dearly.
The family request that visiting hours be observed on Sunday, September 07, 2008 at Ardoins Funeral Home in Eunice from 9:00 am until 10:00 pm and again on Monday, September 08, 2008 from 7:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm Sunday evening.
