BASILEOur beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Vernita Fontenot Sonnier, passed away on the morning of Friday, September 27, 2013 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving daughters by her side. She was 86. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile. Entombment will follow in the St. Augustine Mausoleum with Father David Hebert Celebrant.

Vernita was a member of the Come Lord Jesus Prayer Group, Communion Minister for the Homebound, Faithful Adorer at St. Augustine Adoration Chapel, CCD Supporter, Woodman of The World, and for many years was the President of the American Legion Post 261 Ladies Auxiliary of Basile. But most of all, she was a wonderful cook and a great caregiver to many people. She lives on in all her family, friends, and anyone who had the grace to be touched by her especially her three loving daughters, Rebecca S. Duhon and husband, Gerald, Melissa S. Seilhan, and Katherine Sonnier all of Basile and a sister, Laura F. Fruge of Eunice. She was a loving grandmother to three grandchildren, Jana D. Fontenot and husband, Cody, Ginger L. Duhon and Kendi and Jade D. Doucet and husband, Jerod and a proud great grandmother to six great grandchildren, Jake Thomas Fontenot, Seth Matthew Fontenot and Avery Kate Fontenot, Jackson Cole Williams, Jensen Kate Doucet and Jentry Ann Doucet.

She now rests in Heaven with her beloved husband of 58 years, Burley L. Sonnier her parents, Louis John and Laura Johnson Fontenot, Sr. soninlaw, Paul Seilhan, sister, Leah F. Ledoux, Marice F. Johnson, Viola F. Guidry brothers, Joseph and L.J. Fontenot.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoins Funeral Home in Basile on Friday, September 27th from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm and again on Saturday, September 28th from 7:00 am until time of services. Father David Hebert will recite a Rosary at 6:30 pm Friday evening. Come Lord Jesus Prayer Group will recite a Rosary at 10:00 am Saturday morning.
