EUNICEOur beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Verdie Louise Fontenot, was called home to Heaven on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the age of 90. She died peacefully in Houma at the home of her daughter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:30 am on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice. Interment will follow in the St. Paul Mausoleum with Father Darren Eldridge Celebrant.
Verdie will be missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. She was a native of Eunice, Louisiana, where she retired after 30 years of service with Bell South. She took a position soon afterward with Guillory Tank in Eunice before permanently retiring to enjoy life with her daughters, sonsinlaw and grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters, Connie FontenotHicks Ted of Baton Rouge, and Cindy Fontenot Courville of Houma 7 grandchildren, Shelly HicksMoran David, Stephanie Hicks, Chris Hicks Casey, Kyle Hicks Stacy, Scott Courville, Chad Courville Christine, Jennifer CourvilleTheriot Terrill 13 great grandchildren 6 stepgreat grandchildren 1 greatgreat grandson.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Dorestan and Mattie Fontenot, sister, Gussie Fontenot brother and sisterinlaw, Ixon and Grace Fontenot and soninlaw, Herman Courville.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoins Funeral Home in Eunice on Wednesday, October 16th from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and again on Thursday, October 17 from 8:00 am until time of services. Deacon Robert Leger will recite a Rosary at 6:30 pm Wednesday evening.
The family would like to thank Wendy Boudreaux, Marie Lee, Jenny Malbrough, and Barbara Price for their help in caring for our mother and grandmother with love and compassion. We would like to extend thanks and appreciation to The Medical Team and St. Joseph Hospice of Thibodaux for their compassion and help during this difficult time.
