EUNICEIt is with heavy hearts to announce the sudden passing of Velma Ann Cortina McCauley on December 18, 2009 at her residence at the age of 73. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 2:00 pm at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Eunice. Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Paul Cemetery with Father Cedric Sonnier Celebrant.

Velma devoted her life to the care of her family. She was a very kind and loving woman and spending time with her family brought a great deal of joy to her life. She left those who knew her with warm memories to cheer us and fill our hearts. She was very much loved by her husband, Franklin Bokie McCauley of Eunice; her five sons, Dewey Cortina and his wife, Robin of Trenton, N.J., Mark Foe Cortina and his wife, Marlene, Charles Cortina and his wife, Sandra, Stephen Cortina and his wife, Shelley and Chris Cortina all of Eunice; her five daughters, Jennifer Cortina Himel, Susan McCauley and her husband, William, Cindy Blanchard and her husband, Mike, Theresa Bordelon and her husband, Barry I and Lucretia Duka Cortina and Chad West all of Eunice; her brother, Elroy Miller of Denton, TX; her sister, Clara Fruge of Eunice; and the littlest joys of her life, her twenty five grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren. Also mourning her loss are her five step children and many other family and friends.

Now she rests in heaven with her beloved son, Scott Frances Cortina; her parents, Etienne and Izora Mire Miller and two brothers and two sisters.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoins Funeral Home in Eunice on Sunday, December 20, 2009 from 10:00 until time of services on Tuesday, December 22, 2009. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Monday evening.
