EUNICE-A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile at 10:00 am on Friday, June 20, 2008, for Shirley Ann Cowart Klumpp, 66, who passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at her residence. Interment to follow in the St. Augustine Mausoleum with The Reverend Father Cedric Sonnier Celebrant.

Shirley was born on September 01, 1941 where she was the oldest of three children of Ellis Mildred Cowart of Basile. She was a 1959 graduate of Basile High School and a 1964 graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Speech Therapy. In 1982, she pursued a career in speech pathology with the St. Landry Parish School System where she worked for 23 years. She later returned to U.S.L. and in 1990, received a Masters of Science Degree in Speech Pathology. Shirley instilled the importance of hard work and education in all of her children.

Shirleys hobbies included art, painting watercolors, sewing, being creative, gardening, traveling, reading and working with children. Her educational philosophy was that it is better to build children than to repair adults. All who knew Shirley will love and miss her. It had become obvious that this last battle was one she could not win, so she set about making sure that everyone she left behind was going to be ok. Surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren she was asked if she had anything special to say, she said, That she had been taught to value people more than material things.

She was a kind, considerate, caring, and intelligent person, as a friend loyal and fun, as an educator a dedicated consummate professional, as a wife, a loving life partner, as a mother and grandmother attentive, protective and giving of unconditional love. Shirley is survived by her husband of 45 years, Raymond Ray Klumpp of Eunice; her mother, Mildred Cowart of Basile; a son, Carter Klumpp and wife, Dana of Eunice; two daughters, Amber K. Taylor of Lafayette; Kelly K. Renner and husband, Joel of Houston, TX; two brothers, Charles Bubba Cowart and Gregory Keith Cowart both of Baton Rouge; three grandchildren, Brandon Taylor, Matthew and Samantha Klumpp.

Shirley is preceded in death by her father, Ellis Cowart and Mother-in-Law, Mabel Klumpp
