Samuel Scherer

EUNICE-A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 2:00 pm Monday, October 15, 2007 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Eunice, for Mr. Samuel Scherer, 62, who passed away on Friday, October 12, 2007 at the Heart Hospital of Lafayette, La.

The Rev. Cedric Sonnier, Pastor of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Eunice, will be the Celebrant with the Rite of Committal to follow in the St. Paul Cemetery in Eunice.

A resident of Eunice, Mr. Scherer, was a graduate of Eunice High School, as well as a graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana. He served in the Intelligence Division of the United States Army, and was in the Banking Industry for 28 years. He was also the President of both the Chamber of Commerce and the Sertoma Civic Club, and served on the Advisory Board of Basile State Bank after retirement. He was an active member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and a member of the St. Edmunds Booster Club where his children attended school.

Survivors include his loving wife, Deborah Verges Scherer of Eunice; two sons, Sean Scherer and wife, Jill of Eunice, and Slade Scherer of Lake Charles; and one daughter, Stacy Scherer of Mandeville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Julian and Mabel Scherer.

The family request that visitation hours be observed from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Sunday, October 14, 2007, at Ardoins Funeral Home in Eunice and again on Monday, October 15, 2007, from 8:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Sunday evening.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the St. Edmund Booster Club, 230 North 3rd Street, Eunice, LA 70535; or to the American Heart Association, 2500 Johnston Street, Lafayette, LA 70503; or to the St. Luke Episcopal Hospital Transplant Foundation, 6720 Bertner Avenue, Houston, TX 77030.
