IOTA~It is with heavy hearts that the family of Rufus Deshotel announces his passing on Sunday, February 08, 2015 at Jeff Davis Living Center at the age of 90. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:30 am on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at St. Jules Catholic Church in Tee Mamou. Rite of Committal will follow in the Miller Cove Cemetery in Millerville with Father Paul LaFleur Celebrant.

Rufus was a Commercial fisherman and a powerful man who loved his family and he never met a stranger. Rufus adored his wife and family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a supportive, giving and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be very deeply missed especially by his wife of 69 years, Ruby Douget Deshotel of Millerville; his son, Preston Mark Deshotel of Millerville; five daughters, Earline D. LaCombe and husband, Robert, Loraine D. Nichols and husband, Louis all of Tee Mamou, Martha D. Spitzer of Jennings, Linda Gail D. Roy and husband, Leonard of Iota and Cheryl D. Miller and husband, Murray of Marrero; one brother, Felton Deshotel and wife, Louanna of Tee Mamou; two sisters, Doris D. Hooks of Spugler, TX and Helena D. Moore of Moss Bluff; seventeen grandchildren, Chasity McDermott, Destany Deshotel, Vickie Lynn Fontenot, Craig Leger, Louis Nichols, Jr., Jamie Fontenot, Lolita Wittge, Libby Ridenour, Paul Roy, Maegen Guidry, Quinten, Slade, Sandon, Gavin and Victoria Miller, Angie Foreman and Robert Foreman, Jr.; twenty great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his son, Bobby Dale Deshotel; his daughter, Juanita D. Foreman; his grandson, Mitchell Roy and his parents, Oville and Alice Trahan Deshotel.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Iota on Tuesday, February 10th from 10:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm Tuesday evening.
