EUNICE~ It is with heavy hearts that the family of Rose Mary Fontenot Miller announces her passing on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the Eunice Manor Nursing Home at the age of 94. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, January 24, 2025, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Eunice. Burial will follow in the St. Paul Cemetery in Eunice with Father Sam Fontana, Celebrant.
Rose, known affectionately as “Girlie” to all who knew and loved her, was born on December 3, 1930 in Eunice, La to Harry and Mabel Bertrand Fontenot, both of whom preceded her in death. In her past, she worked in Eunice at Swiss Knitting, Reed’s Dairy and Jansens. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life — from immersing herself in a good book to nurturing her flower garden that bloomed just as her spirit did. Her heart belonged not only to her plants but also to adventure; some of her pastimes included traveling and camping with her beloved late husband and family, creating treasured memories filled with laughter and love. Rose never has an unkind word, and she was also a wonderful cook. She made Sundays a special occasion for her family, gathering them around the table to savor her delicious meals.
Rose will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her especially her children, Linda M. Miller and husband, Gus J. of Eunice, Marilyn M. Johnson and husband, Markel of Ville Platte, and Randy Miller of Eunice; her brother, Harold Fontenot and wife, Lora of Eunice; her sisters, Victoria Thompson of Eunice and Dorothy Prejean and husband, Larry of Sunset; twelve grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren; as well as extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard J. Miller; daughters, Mary Jane Miller, Sandra Gail Miller Guillory and Darla Faye Miller Brown; her parents; brothers, Virgil Fontenot and Hubert Fontenot; and grandson, Chad Guillory.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Thursday, January 23rd from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm, and again on Friday, January 24th from 8:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be prayed at 5:30pm Thursday by Father Sam Fontana.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Catholic Relief Services, P.O. Box 5200, Harlan, IA 51593-0700, Ph: 877-435-7277.
