EUNICE ~ The family of Roger Lee Smith announces his passing on Monday, April 07, 2025, at Oak Lane Wellness & Rehabilitation Center at the age of 88. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Chataignier. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery with Father Clement, Celebrant.

Roger was born on October 11, 1936, to the late Lee and Armida Deville Smith, passed away peacefully. He dedicated twenty years of his life to serve in the United State Navy as a Seabee, from which he proudly retired. Roger had the greenest thumb and was always growing vegetables and working in his garden and outside. He thoroughly enjoyed attending his morning coffee meetings with friends where he often reminiscenced about his Navy and Army Corp of Engineer travels all over the world.

We have lost a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and most importantly a friend to all. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him especially his loving wife of fifty-five years, Barbara Ann Fontenot Smith of Chataignier; daughter, Suzanne Renee’ Smith and step- daughter, Angela Kay Vidrine, both of Chataignier; brother, Joseph Gary Inhern of Opelousas; sister, Jeanetta Smith Manuel of Mamou; the joys of his life his grandchildren, Allison Brasseur and Jonathan Stanford Vidrine and wife, Brittany; great grandchildren, Alex Crowe, and Amelie, Jon Curtis, and Annalise Vidrine.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a great grandchild, Alivia Jo Crowe.

At the request of the family, a visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Thursday, April 10th from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again on Friday, April 11th from 8:00 am until the time of services. Deacon Chuck Ortego will pray a Rosary at 6:00 pm on Thursday.
