Robert M. Eaton, of Eunice, La., passed away June 21, 2007. Born November 16, 1916 in Memphis, TN, to George Leslie and Mary Ann Gaylor Eaton, he moved to Eunice as a child in 1928. He married the love of his life, Nelwyn Guillory Eaton, in 1942; after service in WWII, he spent his entire business career with, and retired from, Humble Oil Co, now Exxon-Mobil. Early retirement years were spent in Silsbee, TX but he later returned to Eunice in 1990.
He lived 90 full, independent years in his own home until the time of his death. He enjoyed life, traveled with family and spent time in recent years contributing to his poker buddies charitable fund.
He is survived by his son, Robert and wife Marylee Morgan Eaton, their children, step-son Jack Pate, Jr., daughter Erin and spouse Celil Cakim, and son Sean and wife Jamie Ashley Eaton; and by his daughter, Mary Ann and husband Tritos Thurmond, their children, son Sebastian and daughter Chelsea. He is preceded in death by his wife, Nelwyn, brother Jack R. Eaton and sister Patricia Ann Rowley.
Visitation was held at Ardoins Funeral Home, on Friday, June 22, 2007 followed on Saturday, June 23, 2007 by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Interment is at St. Pauls Mausoleum. Donations can be made in his memory to Savoy Cancer Center Indigent Fund, 803 Poinciana Avenue, Mamou, LA 70554.
