Mr. Raymond E. Fontenot, age 77 of Eunice died peacefully on Wednesday May 18th of cancer.
He was born on June 18, 1933 in Eunice to Edith Adras Fontenot. He was married to the former Blanche Blalock, and they had two sons, John Jerome David Grant.
Mr. Fontenot was graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and went on to obtain advanced degrees in the field of Education from Louisiana State University. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during peacetime in the 1950s and 1960s.
He was wellknown as the principal of Eunice High School for 27 years and was appointed as St. Landry Parish School Superintendent in 1992.
Mr. Fontenot was a member of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church in Eunice. He was a devoted member of the Rotary Club for many years and was a Paul Harris Fellow. After his retirement from the school system, Ramon, as he was known to his friends, studied and travelled to World War II sites throughout the world, becoming an avid historian of this period.
A Celebration of Raymonds Life will be celebrated at 10:00 am Tuesday, May 24th at Ardoins Funeral Home in Eunice.
The family wishes to acknowledge the excellent and attentive care of the medican and nursing staff at Acadian Medical Center in Eunice, as well as the many expressions of concern and care from family and friends.
