Priscilla Bowers

Priscilla Morgan Bowers passed away on January 07, 2015 at Harbor Hospice after a short illness, at the age of 91. She was the mother of 5 children, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren. She had 5 siblings.

Priscilla was born in Leechburg, PA. Her family later moved to Niagara Falls, NY where she met and married Joe R. Bowers, Sr. His job transferred him in 1953 to start up the Olin Matheson Refinery in Westlake. After living in Lake Charles for a year (at the site of the present Tony's Pizza), while waiting on their home to be built, they moved to Westlake in 1954 where they remained until their deaths.

Priscilla had several different jobs while living in Westlake. She worked in the Shoe Dept. of Muller's Dept. Store, worked in the Cafeteria at S.P. Arnett Middle School and was most known as the manager of the public pool in Westlake. She was active throughout her life as a supporter of various athletic programs at Westlake High School and was an active member of Westlake United Methodist Church for years. Her parents were immigrants from Scotland and she took great pride in her roots in Scotland. She kept in close touch with several distant cousins there, whom she met during a cherished visit to Great Britain. After the death of her husband, she moved into the Westlake Senior Apartments on Walker Dr., where she remained until her recent illness.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Angela Bowers, her brother, John Morgan, her husband, Joe R. Bowers, Sr., her mother, Priscilla Morgan and her father, William Morgan, Sr.

She leaves behind 3 daughters: Linda Berry and husband, Charles Berry of Dickinson, TX, Carol Zimmerman and her husband, Ronald Zimmerman of Tomball, TX, Rebecca (Becky) Knott and her husband Raymond Knott of Arnaudville, LA., her son, Joe R. Bowers, Jr. and his wife, Alice Manning Bowers of Lake Charles, LA. Her 10 grandchildren, Angela Hoy, Alicia Granger, Stacey Berry, Pamela Goodeaux, Eric Zimmerman, Kari Edwards, Wesley Zimmerman, Lindsey Zimmerman, Lauren Bowers and Hunter Bowers. Sibilings: Charlotte Whitmore of Yuma, AZ, William Morgan, Jr of Marble Falls, TX, Elizabeth Sauro of Yuma, AZ and Peggy Surman of Corona, CA. Also her 13 great grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and friends and neighbors.

Priscilla requested that no funeral or memorial service be held as she had an aversion to them. Her family is honoring her wishes and after cremation will spread her ashes in Galveston where her husband's were spread.

The family would like to thank her Drs. LeDet, Shitta-Bay and George and the staff of the 2nd floor of West Cal-Cam hospital. Your patience, compassion and skills made her last days more tolerable. Also, the staff of Harbor Hospice for your caring handling of her too short stay. All of these made a traumatic event bearable and your efforts were greatly appreciated.
