BASILEIt is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Oren D. Ortego announces his passing on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Maison De Lafayette in Lafayette surrounded by his loved ones. He was 87. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Friday, January 3, 2013 at 3:00 pm at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile. Inurnment will follow in the St. Augustine Mausoleum with Father David Hebert as Celebrant.
Oren proudly served with the United States Marine Corp. He was the owner of Campers Unlimited and an Industrial Arts teacher for Evangeline Parish School Board for over 30 years at Basile High School. Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend and will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him especially his wife, Priscilla Reed Ortego of Basile a son, Jack Ortego and wife, Beverley of Baton Rouge two daughters, Trisha Simpson and husband, Jon and Sharise Nicholas all of Lafayette. The joys of his life his nine grandchildren, Joanna Ortego, Joshua Ortego, Josiah Ortego, Lauren Ortego, Devan Noel, Shelby Simpson, Blair Simpson, Brooke Nicholas and Noelle Nicholas and two great grandchildren, Landon Simpson and Gabriele Ortego.
He now rests in Heaven with his beloved father, Wilson Ortego his mother and step father, Lovenia and Lawrence Ritter two sons, Craig and Stuart Ortego and a brother, Herman Lee Ortego.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church on Friday, January 3, 2013 from 1:00 pm until time of services. A Rosary will be recited at 2:00 pm Friday afternoon.
