Nona Geraldine Jerry Smith, a mother, grandmother, nurse and friend, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2006 surrounded by her family. She was born in Maulden, Missouri, and moved with her family to northern California as a child. On the dance floor at the USO in Mountain View, California she met her late husband. They were married and moved to Eunice, Louisiana where she joyfully became the mother of two children. Mrs. Smiths desire to help others led her to a career as a nurse when she was 35 years old. Mrs. Smith, respected by all for her warmth, wit, and compassion, served as a nurse for almost 30 years.

Among the things she treasured the most in her life where telling well-time jokes, the company of animals, the comfort of pastries and the hugs of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Ronald Gale Smith of Dallas, TX; daughter, Trudie Smith Lewis and husband, Bradford; grandchildren, Bradford Lewis IV and wife, Robyn Owens Lewis, all of Baton Rouge, LA; Traci Lewis Lee and husband, Hamilton Scott Lee of Dallas, TX; Jami Scott Smith and wife, Jamie Thibodeaux Smith of Eunice, LA; and four great-grandchildren, Bradford Quintin Lewis, V, Julian Cole Lewis, and Grant Owen Lewis of Baton Rouge, LA; MacKenzie Claire Smith of Eunice, LA. She is further survived by her uncle, Ronald Bridges and wife, Barbara of La Selva Beach, CA along with cousins, nephews, and other relatives and many dear friends.

She is preceeded in death by her husband, Gale Adam Smith; parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Eugene Pounds; brother, William Eugene Pounds, Jr.; grandson, Gale Adam Smith, II; great-grandson, Ethan Scott Smith.

Visitation for Mrs. Smith began Tuesday and will resume Wednesday, July 19, 2006, from 8:00a.m. until services at 10:00a.m. in the Ardoins Funeral Home Chapel with Winston Diggy Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
