BASILE~ It is with the heaviest of hearts that the family of Melissa Sonnier Seilhan announces her unexpected passing on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at the age of 71. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Friday, March 28, 2025, at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in the St. Augustine Mausoleum with Father Kenneth Domingue serving as Celebrant.
Missy, a cherished soul, was born on May 23, 1953, to Burley and Vernita Fontenot Sonnier in Eunice. A proud graduate of Basile High School, Class of 1971, Missy spent her life embodying kindness and warmth, always eager to lend a helping hand within her community. She was a devout parishioner of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile, where she was a lector and Director of Religious Education for several years. Missy was also a teacher’s aide at W.W. Stewart Elementary School in Basile for many years. Her greatest joy came from the time she shared with her beloved family and friends, especially those special moments with her nieces. Missy’s heart overflowed with love for her family, particularly her dear sister, Kaye Sonnier of Basile, whom she cared for after the passing of their parents. She was also like a second mother to her nieces and nephews, Jana Duhon Fontenot and her husband, Cody, of Mandeville, Ginger Duhon Williams and her wife, Kendi, and Jade Duhon Doucet and her husband, Jerod, all of Basile, Garret Seilhan and wife, Trisha of Jennings, Stacy Seilhan Aldrich and husband, Bryce of Lafayette, Erin Seilhan of Phoenix, AZ, Kelli Seilhan Bischoff and husband, Joe of Eunice, Nicholas Seilhan of Lake Charles, Sean Seilhan and wife, Kaylyn of Sikes, and Alyssa Seilhan Belloni and husband, Jarret of Colorado. Additionally, she took immense pride in her role as a great aunt to Jackson Williams, Jake Fontenot, Seth Fontenot, Jensen Doucet, Avery Fontenot, Jentry Doucet, Jep Doucet, Evann Williams, Ruby and Sally Bischoff, Briley Aldrich, Griffin, Hayden, Landon and Davin Seilhan, Carlie Fruge, Kirsten Daniels, Baynham Seilhan and Ryker Seilhan.
Missy was a pillar of strength and peace, and her absence will be profoundly felt. She is preceded in death by her loving parents, her husband, Kenneth Paul Seilhan, her sister, Rebecca Sonnier Duhon, and an infant child.
As we gather to celebrate her life, a visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Basile, on Thursday, March 27th from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm and again on Friday, March 28th from 7:00 am until the time of services. The Catholic Daughters will pray a Rosary at 6:00 pm on Thursday. Family and friends can come together to honor her legacy. We invite everyone to view this obituary and sign the guestbook at www.ardoinfuneralhomes.com.
Carrying her to her resting place will be Jackson Williams, Jake Fontenot, Seth Fontenot, Cody Fontenot, Jerod Doucet and Brian Christ. Honorary pallbearer will be Jep Doucet.
In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made to the family to be used for Masses and charities of their choice.
Missy’s spirit will continue to shine in the hearts of those she loved, making heaven a little brighter as she watches over us all.
