EUNICE Memorial services will be held at 3pm on August 2, 2013 at Mt. Carmel church in Chataignier for Michael James Fuzzy Quinilty who passed away July 30, 2013 at his residence in Chataignier, Louisiana. Mike was born on July 29, 1949, in Eunice, Louisiana to Austin and Mary Ardoin Quinilty. He was a lifelong resident of the LAnse Aux Pailles community.
As a child, Mike loved to take things apart and put them back together. He could fix anything, so it was natural that he became a mechanic. He worked at TriParish Flying Service for several years. His love for tinkering with airplane motors led to him obtaining his pilots license and he became a crop duster for local farmers. He worked with his brotherinlaw, Lonis at Chataignier Flying Service before eventually joining his father in the family farming business. Years later, it was common for neighbors to see him driving his tractor with his grandson on the seat beside him.
A man of few words, Mike was happy living a quiet country life, listening to Cajun music and sometime playing along on his accordion. He enjoyed being in the Chataignier Supper Club, going to Freds Lounge and being with his friends, promising that he would, Pass and make a round. His quiet presence will be missed.
Michael is survived by one daughter, Shannon Quinilty D Aubin and her husband Darren of Chataignier, two sisters, Vernita Quinilty West of Chataignier, and Susan Quinilty Fallis and husband, John, of Lafayette, one grandson, Jon Quinilty Quinn D Aubin and one granddaughter, Savannah Leigh DAubin, three nephews, Chuck West and John Kelly West of Chataignier, Douglas West of Mandeville, two nieces, Melany West of Chataignier and Melody West Allen of Lafayette,
one aunt, Anna Stanford Leger of Chataignier and his previous wife of 34 years, Charlene Vizena Quinilty of Eunice. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brotherinlaw, Lonis West.
The Quinilty family would like to thank all of the staff at Heart of Hospice and our care givers who have become part of the family: Patty Pitre, Linda Slocum, Dot Delahousaye, Margaret Darbonne and all others who helped make Mikes last few weeks comfortable. We will be forever grateful. Special thanks to Mel, his niece, nurse and neighbor and to Dot for going above and beyond in her time and devotion.
Visitation will be held in Mt. Carmel church hall from 2 3 pm on Friday.
