EUNICE Mary Ethel Smith, 85, of Eunice was taken in the arms of her heavenly Father on Thursday, September 30, 2010.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, October 02, 2010 at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church with Father Darren Eldrige officiating and Deacon David Guillory assisting. Burial will follow in the St. Paul Mausoleum. Visitation will be at Ardoins Funeral Home on Friday, October 01, 2010 from 10:00am until 10:00pm and again on Saturday, October 02, 2010 from 8:00am until Services. A rosary will be recited at 7:00pm Friday evening by Deacon David Guillory.

Ethel was a longtime resident of Eunice and member of Saint Thomas More Church. She was a homemaker and for many years was employed at the Eunice Country Club. Her joys in life were that of her family, 22 grandchildren, 34 greatgrandchildren, one greatgreat grandchild, friends and neighbors. Visits from the grandchildren and greatgrandchildren always brought a smile to her face and she was able to easily remember the names of each of them. When she was able, she enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, fishing, and camping. In her later years, her joy was riding down the country roads and viewing places where she once lived and telling stories about her childhood. She faithfully attended Rosary meetings with her prayer group friends and enjoyed participating in the games provided by the staff at the Eunice Manor Home.

She is survived by her seven children and their spouses, Betty Bergeron and husband, Levens, Linda Vidrine, Donald Smith and wife, Jan, Judy Brinkley and husband, Carl, Pat Fuselier and husband, Norris, Ed Smith and wife, Kelly, Lynn Smith and wife, Ellen sisters, Jeanette Cormier, Shirley Dietz and Verna Douget brother, Lester Cormier and wife, Joyce grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. She will be missed by all.

Ethel was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Roosevelt Smith her parents, Issac and Angelle Cormier brother and sisterinlaw, Curley Cormier and wife, Lucille brother, Issac Cormier, Jr. sister and brotherinlaw, Genve Fontenot and husband, Albert brotherinlaw, Bruce Dietz brotherinlaw, Cursey Douget soninlaw, Harold Vidrine granddaughter, Holly Vidrine and greatgrandson, Jacob Zaunbrecher.

The family would like to extend their thanks to Ethels dear friends and neighbors on Pearl Street who kept watch over her for many years and to the staff of Eunice Manor for the care they gave their mother in her final year here on earth.

Serving as pallbearers are Clint Bergeron, Elroy Bergeron, Gy Vidrine, Derrick Smith, Jody Smith, Jeramy Guillory, Brady Fuselier, Benny Smith, and Jonathon Smith.
