EUNICE-Marie Lucille Stockman Johnson was born and reared in Rapides Parish to Mr. and Mrs. John Louis Stockman, Sr. She was one of nine children,
After graduating from high school, she pursued a nursing career. She studied at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LSU Medical School, Nursing Department, and the University of North Carolina. Her employment with the Louisiana Health Unit System sent her to Franklin, LA, where she met and married Milton R. Johnson. Their only child Daniel Lloyd Johnson II died at an early age.
Upon her husbands return from military service following World War II, they moved to Crowley. While teaching at the Louisiana Technical College-Acadian Campus in Crowley, she was instrumental in organizing the LPN Program in local vocational-technical schools. This plan was later adopted nation wide.
In 1955 the Johnsons moved to Eunice where she was active in the First United Methodist Church. She was a lifetime choir member, honorary member of the Administrative Board, served as President of the Missionary Society, and on various committees. In addition she was a worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Ivy Chapter.
While studying elementary education at USL she discovered a talent and love for art. Her paintings of local landscapes and nature scenes resulted in her being recognized as an accomplished artist. She was a Charter member of the Lafayette Art Association.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Zella Mae Marcantel of Oakdale; a brother, John Louis Stockman, Jr. of Houston, TX; a host of nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Milton R. Johnson; her infant son, Daniel Lloyd Johnson II; her parents; six brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
The family request that visitation hour be observed at Ardoins Funeral Home in Eunice on Friday, June 08, 2007 from 7pm until 10pm and again on Saturday, June 09, 2007 from 12 noon until time of services at 2 pm at Ardoins Funeral Home Chapel with the burial to follow in the Franklin Cemetery in Franklin, LA.
She was indeed an inspiration to many people. Even though her physical vision was gone, she could sense the beauty of the world around her and could always find a positive response in every situation. Her abiding faith in God sustained her through many difficulties.
