EUNICE-Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, December 15, 2006, at The First Baptist Church in Chataignier for Louis Fontenot, 85, who passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at Savoy Medical Center in Mamou.

Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.

Mr. Fontenot was a longtime farmer and a member of numerous agricultural organizations of which he won many awards with soil and water conservation such as Farmer of the Year.

Survivors include his son Michael L. Fontenot and Julia of Chataignier; daughter, Larrie F. Cart of Chataignier; a sister, Lovine Fontenot of Eunice; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Smith Fontenot; son-in-law, Raven Cart; one brother; his parents, Fermin and Celiman Fontenot.

The family request that visitation hours be observed from 1:00 pm until 10:00 pm Thursday, December 14, 2006, at Ardoins Funeral Home and again on Friday, December 15, 2006 from 8:00 am until time of services.
