EUNICE-It is with great sadness that the family of Leon Stelly announces his passing on Monday, September 14, 2009 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette at the age of 74. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 2:00 pm at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice. Entombment will follow in the St. Paul Mausoleum with Father Tom Voorhies Celebrant and Father Gil Dutel Co-Celebrant.

Leon a successful business man and was the past owner of Eunice Poultry, Mama Fried Chicken, and Crispy Cajun as well as a member of the Elks Lodge in Opelousas and a member of the Board of Director of State Bank in Eunice for twenty plus years.

He will be remembered as one who enjoyed being with his family and friends most of all, and was an avid sports fan. A loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, Leon will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Elsie Angelle Stelly of Eunice; his four sons, Randy and his wife, Jenny of Sunset, Ricky Stelly of Maurice, Kirk Stelly of Eunice and Creig Stelly of Maurice; his one daughter, Michelle Rider of Eunice; his brother, Herbert Stelly and his wife, Melba of Eunice; his three sisters, Marie Sanders of Houston, TX, Shirley Savoie and husband, Herman of Arnaudville, and Audrey Angelle and husband, Jim of Katy, TX; twelve cherished grandchildren and his one special great grandchild. He left those who knew him with warm memories to cheer us and fill our hearts.

Now he rests in heaven with his beloved parents, Clayton and Bernice Lalonde Stelly; and his two brothers, John Allen and J.C. Stelly.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoins Funeral Home in Eunice on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 from 3:00 pm until 10:00 pm and again on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 from 8:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Tuesday evening.
