EUNICE-It is with heavy hearts that the family of Leighton Paul Fruge announces his passing on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at the Senior Village Nursing Home in Opelousas. He was 87. A Celebration of Life will be Celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 02, 2018 in the Ardoin's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Deacon T.J. Richard officiating.

Leighton was a veteran of the United States Army. He was an outstanding soldier in the 82nd Airborne Division and was among the armed forces men greeted personally by President Truman during a division trip to Washington D.C. He was also greeted by Louisiana Congressmen, Secretary of Defense George C. Marshall and Joint Chief of Staff Chairman General Omar Bradley. Leighton was also a surgical technician in the 307th Airborne Medical Battalion. He retired from the United States Postal Service in Eunice after serving 25 years as a Letter Carrier. He enjoyed hunting and camping, and was an avid gardener and outstanding cook. Leighton was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend and will forever be remembered by his wife of 67 years, Essie Richard Fruge of Eunice; son, Randall "Randy" Fruge and wife, Jan of Eunice; daughter, Myra Fruge Miller of Eunice; brother, Bertman Fruge of Sulphur; five sisters, Bertha Fruge Turner of Richard, Lelia Fruge Stanford of Eunice, Louevella Fruge Manuel of Pine Prairie, Mary Louise Fruge Lavergne and husband, Leelen of Eunice, and Jeanette Fruge Fontenot and husband, Farrell of Eunice; four grandchildren, Nick Fruge, Casey Fruge, Adrienne Miller, and Megan Miller Guidry; eight great grandchildren, Grace Fruge, Abram Fruge, Andrew Fruge, Zachary Fruge, Caroline Fruge, Samuel Fruge, Matthew Fruge, Winston Guidry, and one on the way; as well as extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Dulley Darbonne Fruge; sister, Sarah Fruge Guillory; and brothers, Wilson Fruge, Carrol Fruge, and James Fruge.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Eunice on Tuesday, May 1st from 10:00 am until 9:00 pm and on Wednesday, May 2nd from 8:00 am until services. Deacon T.J. Richard will recite a Rosary at 6:00 pm on Tuesday.
