Levine Doxie Joseph Manuel, named for his parents, Mr. L.D. Manuels sunrise was October 1, 1930. His sunset was Monday, September 23, 2013. His celebration of life will begin with visitation at Ardoins Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 24th at 5:00 pm with a Scripture Service at 6:30 pm with Msgr. Jace Eskind presiding. A Rosary will follow at 7:15 pm led by Deacon Gary Gaudin with the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. On Wednesday, September 25th, visitation continues at 8:00 am until 10:30 am. The Mass of Resurrection will be at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church at 11:00 am, with Fr. Henry Broussard and Father Tom Voorhies Celebrants. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Mr. Manuel was a loving husband, devoted father, and loyal friend. He loved the Eunice area which he called home for 82 years. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Geneva Bergeron Manuel, one daughter, Mary Pamela Manuel Fontenot Rocky, and two sons, Kris Elliott Manuel Christina, Jamie Doxie Manuel Vickie seven grandchildren: Kelli Manuel Taquino Kyle, Jessica Manuel, Ashley Manuel, Victoria Manuel LarsenBrent Allison Manuel, Tyler Broussard and Cole Manuel three greatgrandchildren: Jackson Blair Bradshaw, Julianna Broussard and Amelia Broussard.
Mr. Manuel is preceded in death by his parents Levine Aguillard Manuel and Doxie Manuel two brothers: Dallas Manuel and Berkman Manuel and one sister: Rosemary Manuel one son: Keith Blair Manuel.
Mr. Manuel was a retired rice, soybean, and crawfish farmer. After his retirement from farming he went work for Coushatta Casino. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Parish where he served three terms on the Parish Council was an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, an usher, an instructor for couples preparing for the Rite of Marriage, he taught Baptismal Preparation Classes for young couples, as well as a teacher for Confirmation for high school students. He was a member of the Eunice Knights of Columbus 1475 and celebrated a 50 year membership of Msgr. Martel Knights of the 4th degree. He served as the vice president of the St. Edmunds PTC and was an active member of St. Edmunds Booster Club, serving on Msgr. Harry Benefields team to build St. Edmunds High School. At Our Lady of the Oaks Retreat House, he served on the Lay Advisory Board and was a captain and recruiter of the mens retreat for the Eunice area.
Mr. Manuel was the 1972 Lions Club Farmer of the Year he was the 1977 Eunice Jaycee Boss of the Year he was the 1970 Farmer of the Year for the Louisiana Bankers Association he served on the Board of Directors of the St. LandryEvangeline Drainage Board.
Mr. Manuel was featured in the Eunice News as a Man Who Made a Differencean edition dedicated to the men we appreciate in the Eunice area. In addition to fishing and hunting, Mr. Manuel enjoyed cooking. He won the SteamBoat Warehouse cooking contest and was featured on the Charter Channel 11 RTNKDCG Whats Cookin program, preparing his venison roast recipe.
Donations may be made to the Blair Manuel Scholarship Foundation at LSU of Eunice as well as St. Judes Childrens Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
