Lannie Degeyter

July 21, 1948 — March 31, 2025

EUNICE-It is with heavy hearts that the family of Lannie Degeyter announces his passing on Monday, March 31, 2025, at his home at the age of 76. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 4, 2025, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice with Father Hampton Davis, Celebrant. Entombment will follow at 4:00 pm in the St. Bernard Catholic Mausoleum in Breaux Bridge.

Lannie, born on July 21, 1948, to the late Louis and Lillian Quebedeaux Degeyter, was a beloved figure known for his culinary talents that brought family and friends together. Renowned for his mouthwatering gumbo, sticky chicken, and crawfish étouffée, Lannie proudly claimed the title of World Champion Crawfish Étouffée Cookoff Winner, a testament to his passion and expertise in cooking. His journey took him to Eunice, where he opened Lenny’s Restaurant, an endeavor that showcased his love for food and hospitality. Later, as the owner, operator, and chef of Mama’s Fried Chicken, he continued to spread joy through his delicious meals. After retiring, Lannie worked at Harry Smith’s True Value and also shared his knowledge and love for cooking by teaching at the local Vocational School. Beyond the kitchen, Lannie embraced life. Whether it was savoring a cold Coors Light, dancing to Cajun music, listening to KBON, or enjoying the vibrant company of others, he always found joy in the everyday moments. However, it was his grandsons who truly held a special place in his heart. The time he spent with them was cherished beyond measure.

Lannie is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, June Angelle Degeyter of Eunice; his son, Shane Degeyter and wife, Monique of Sugarland, TX; his brother, James Degeyter and wife, Norma of Arnaudville; his sister, Betty Ann Allemand and husband, Paul of Parks; his two grandsons, Caleb Degeyter and Hayden Degeyter of Sugarland, TX; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

Lannie is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John Lee Degeyter; and sisters, Anna Mae New and Mary Rose Faccion.
