BASILEA wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, Joyce Johnson Nelson will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Joyce died on Wednesday, May 09, 2012 at Oaklane Wellness Rehabilitation Center in Eunice. She was 81. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 11, 2012 at the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile. Entombment will follow in the St. Augustine Mausoleum with Father Brian Taylor Celebrant.

Joyce was a Retired Ward Clerk for the Basile Nursing Home as well a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and a former Catechism Teacher, Eucharist Minister and Lector. She loved working in her flower garden and yard but most importantly she loved her family and spending time with them brought a great deal of joy to her life. She will be lovingly missed by her three children, her son, Warren Ray Nelson and wife, Rita of Eunice her two daughters, Winona Nelson Leger and husband, Tim of Basile and JoJuana Nelson Blackburn and husband, Rick of Opelousas her brother, Arvil J. Johnson, Sr. and wife, Jean of Sheperd, Tx. She was blessed with five grandchildren, Dione Nahaya, Heather Guillory, Caleb, Aaron, and Sara Leger and further blessed with two great grandchildren, Elijah and Mikalya Nahaya.

She now rests in Heaven with her beloved husband, Rayford Nelson her parents, Amos and Pearl Bertrand Johnson brother, Jessway J. Johnson and a grandson, Andrew Leger.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoins Funeral Home in Basile on Thursday, May 10th from 10:00 am until 10:00 pm and again on Friday, May 11th from 8:00 am until time of services. Deacon Robby Leger will recite a Rosary at 7:00 pm Thursday evening.
