BASILE~It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joseph Pershing Young announces his passing on Sunday, May 24, 2015 in the comfort of his home with loving family by his side at the age of 85. The Knights of Columbus will recite a Rosary at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at St. Augustine Catholic Church followed by a Memorial Mass at 2:00 pm with Father David Hebert officiating.
Pershing proudly served with the United States Army. He was the founder of the Basile Care Center and the Nursing Home Administrator. Early in his career he worked as a Medical Lab and X-Ray Technician at Dr. Charles Fellows clinic in Sulphur. He was a 4th degree Knight, as well as a member of the American Legion, Past Parish Councilmember of the St. Augustine Church and a Eucharistic Minister. A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him especially his wife of 57 years, Bernice Guillot Young of Basile; his daughter, Susan Young Thompson and husband, Steve of Basile ; his three grandchildren, Dr. Amy Thompson Soileau and husband, John of Moss Bluff, Laura Thompson of Austin, TX and Kyle Thompson and wife, Kayla of Rye, Australia; his five great grandchildren, Anna, Jack, Jules, Alice and Evangeline Soileau. He will also be missed by his niece, Cheryl Reed Fuselier of Lake Charles and nephew, Paul Reed of Sulphur; his godchild, Theresa Seilhan of Basile; his special friend, Ben John of Elton and his faithful caregiver, Patricia LeBlanc of Basile.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Josien and Isore Bertrand Young and a sister, Hazel Young Reed.
