EUNICEIt is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Joseph Linus Bertrand announces his passing on Sunday, March 04, 2012 at the Opelousas General Hospital. He was 81. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 06, 2012 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Eunice. Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Father Cedric Sonnier Celebrant.

Joseph was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the St. Thomas More Catholic Church Parish and also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a founding member of the Girls Softball Association, and was involved in and supported the Eunice Mardi Gras Association and the RendezVous des Cajuns Cajun Radio and TV Show. As a life long accordion musician, he supported the preservation of the Cajun culture. Joseph was a loving father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend and will be dearly missed by his three daughters, Joan Bertrand Roberts and husband, David of Conroe, TX, Ardis Bertrand Fontenot and husband, Richard of Eunice, and Lorna Bertrand Fruge and husband, Neal of Magnolia, TX two brothers, Raymond Bertrand of Reserve and Lee Allen Bertrand of Eunice four grandchildren, Elliot Roberts, Adrienne Roberts, Luke Fontenot, and Evan Fontenot and two great grandchildren, Jenna and Layna Fontenot. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.

Joseph is preceded in death by he beloved wife, Ruby Hebert Bertrand parents, Sandes and Oline Clavier Bertrand brothers, Dennis Bertrand and Rodney Bertrand and sister, Agnes Thibodeaux.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoins Funeral Home in Eunice on Monday, March 5th from 12:00 pm until 9:00 pm and again on Tuesday, March 6th from 8:00 am until time of Services. Father Cedric Sonnier will recite a Rosary at 7:00 pm Monday evening.
