Joseph Hubert Fontenot

BASILE-With heavy hearts the family of Joseph Hubert Fontenot announces his passing on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Eunice Manor surrounded by loved ones at the age of 80. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Friday, August 16, 2024, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile. Entombment will follow in the St. Augustine Mausoleum with Father Keenan Brown as Celebrant.

 Joseph was born on December 17, 1943, in Basile, Louisiana to Batson and Ethel Abshire Fontenot. He was known as “Hubert” by family but was also known as “The Clock Man” by many in his community. He was the owner and operator of Fontenot’s Clock Service and was passionate about being a clocksmith, proudly learning the trade from his father. Joseph was also well known as he was the store manager of West Brothers Department Store for many years. He was also an avid dove and quail hunter who enjoyed nature. Another pastime Joseph enjoyed was barbequing and cooking, being famous for his sauce piquant. 

 Joseph will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those whose loved him, especially his children, Damon Fontenot and wife, Rachel of Eunice, and Ashley Fontenot of Lafayette; his brother, Chester Fontenot and wife, Mary of Duralde; his sister, Leola Granger and husband, Earl “Butch” of Duralde; five grandchildren, Nicholas Fontenot and wife, Kyra, Gavin Fontenot and wife, Alyssa, Victoria Trosclair and husband, Trenon, Camila Fontenot, and Micah Fontenot; eight great grandchildren; as well as extended family and dear friends.

 He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Andrew Fontenot and Otis Fontenot; and sister, Ethelette Thibodeaux. 

   At the wishes of the family, a visitation to pay respects and offer condolences will take place at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Basile on Friday, August 16th from 7:00 am until the time of services. A Rosary will be prayed at 12:00 pm by the Catholic Daughters.
