John Kurta, Sr.

Eunice~ It is with heavy hearts that the family of John Kurta, Sr. announces his passing on, Friday, November 26, 2021, at Our Lady of Lourdes in Lafayette at the age of 91. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Mowata. Burial will follow in the St. Lawrence Cemetery with Father Mike Sucharski, Celebrant.

John served his country proudly in the United States Army Air Corps. He loved to fly planes and enjoyed fishing and woodworking. John will be forever remembered by his wife of forty-six years, Loretta Zaunbrecher Kurta of Mowata; sons, George Kurta and wife, Mary Margaret of Highlands, NJ, and John Kurta, Jr. of Chatam, VA; four grandchildren, Karina Kurta, Joshua Kurta, Megan Kurta, and David Nolan; step children, Frank Mitchell Leger and wife, Michelle of Crowley, Ann Leger of Mowata, Jeffery Leger and wife, Bridge of Mowata, and James Leger of Mowata; five step-grandchildren, Renee Greene and husband, Garret, Ryan Leger and wife, Lindsey, Brandon Leger and wife, Erica, Cheyenne Leger, and JoAnna Leger; four step-great grandchildren, Addilyn Leger, Bennett Leger, Charlotte Leger, and William Leger; as well as extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Denise Kurta; parents, George and Anna Yacina Kurta; brother, Charles Kurta; sister, Anna Seniakevgch; and a step-grandson, Kasey Leger.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Monday, November 29th from 3:30 pm until 8:00 pm and again on Tuesday, November 30th from 8:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 pm on Monday.
