Funeral services for Mrs. Iris Lowe, age 97, of Norman, and a former lifelong resident of Eunice, Louisiana will be held at 10:00 am Friday, August 12, 2011 in The Chapel of the Ardoin Funeral Home, 1301 West Laurel Avenue in Eunice, Louisiana.
Iris was born on Christmas Day in 1913 the daughter of Samuel and Alice Eleanor Merrit McManus. She passed away Saturday evening, August 6, 2011 at the Clare Bridge Assisted Living Center in Oklahoma City.
Iris was raised in Eunice, attending the public schools there, graduating from Eunice High School in May of 1932. Later on September 28, 1932 she became the wife of Mr. Grady Bradford Lowe.
During the Depression, Iris and Grady lived in Port Arthur, Texas from 1934 to 1940, moving back to Eunice where they remained until Iris moved to Norman, Oklahoma in 2002.
While a resident of Eunice, Iris was very involved in the First Baptist Church, beginning her faithful walk with The Lord at the age of 8 years old. A devoted Christian lady, Iris served as the President of the Womens Missionary Union for the State of Louisiana and was the Sunday School teacher for the Dorcas Sunday School Class for more than 70 years.
In her spare time, Iris enjoyed tending to her garden, traveling, reading, fishing and was a talented china painter.
Survivors include her son Richard Grady Lowe and his wife, Kathy of Denton, Texas three daughters Bethel Rae Becky LoweDaniel and her husband, Henry of Taos, New Mexico, Neva Gayle LoweWeaver and her husband, Joe of Norman, and Mildred Sue LoweMcManus and her husband, Nelson of Brownsburg, Indiana 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents her husband of nearly 66 years, Grady Bradford Lowe on January 10, 1998 four brothers and seven sisters.
Memorial donations may be made in memory of Iris Lowe to the First Baptist Church, 311 S. 3rd Street, Eunice, Louisiana 70535 or a charity of the donors choice.
Burial will conclude in the St. Louis Cemetery in Eunice, Louisiana.
Local arrangements are under the direction of the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
