Herbert Elmer Savoy, 85, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2010, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at the St. Joseph Hospice Carpenter House. He was born May 14, 1924, and lived most of his life in Eunice, La. Herbert attended and graduated from St. Edmunds Catholic School and was a parishioner for years of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice. He retired from the City of Eunice Gas Department and Tessoro Petroleum Company.
Herbert is survived by his loving wife of 62 years , Priscilla Soileau Savoy his son, Michael Wayne Savoy and his wife, Nancy Henchy Savoy his daughter inlaw, Pris Reed Savoy his six grandchildren, Brennen Savoy and his wife Heather Savoy, Ashley Savoy, Stacy Hoggatt and her husband Jason Hoggatt, Jennifer Savoie and her husband Matthew Savoie , Lauren Olinde and her husband Andrew Olinde , Jacob Savoy and 13 great grandchildren. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Savoy and Hattie Savoy his son, Russell James Savoy and by his sister, Mary Alice Tootsie.
Herbert was a loyal and dedicated service man and was always very proud to have served his country during World War II. He was a disabled Army Veteran who served as a Private First Class, Troop A, 8th Calvary . Mr. Savoy served in the Philippines and the Luzon Campaigns. His decorations and citations included AsiaticPacific Campaign Medal with Two Bronze Battle Stars Purple Heart Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Two Bronze Stars Combat Infantryman Badge Victory Medal and the American Theatre Medal. Herbert was a Charter member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, a member of the American Legion, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and a life member of the Purple Heart Association. Herbert Elmer Savoy was a loving husband, father and grandfather, will be dearly missed and forever remembered as a quiet, kind, gentle man. Visitation will be held at Ardoins Funeral Home, 1301 W. Laurel Avenue Hwy 190, Eunice, LA 70535 from 4:30 pm until 9:00 pm on February 24, 2010. Service at 10:00 am on February 25, 2010 at St. Anthonys Church in Eunice with Father Ed Duhon Celebrant. Burial to follow at the Port Hudson National Cemetery in Zachary at 2:00 pm. The family would like to thank the dedicated doctors, nurses and staff at the St. Joseph Hospice Carpenters House for the loving care they gave Herbert.
