EUNICEIt is with great sadness that the family of Gussie Smith announces her passing on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas at the age of 88. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Eunice. Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Paul Cemetery in Elton with Father Cedric Sonnier Celebrant.

Gussie was a homemaker and businesswoman. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and traveling. She was the owner and operator of Smith Grocery Store in Hathaway, where she enjoyed meeting and getting to know many people of the community.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She touched the heart and soul of everyone she met. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Gail Smith Medus and husband, Paul of Opelousas her sister, Theresa Fall of Orange, TX and her granddaughter, Chassity Medus Leger and husband, Ben of Grand CoteauSunset her greatest love, her two grandchildren, Asa and Abigail Leger her goddaughter and niece, Peggy Ann Fall of Orange, TX her godson and nephew, Philip Bellow of Wooster, OH nephews, Lanston Wayne Fall of Orange, TX, Lloyd James Bellow of Houston, TX, Steven and Larry Cormier both of Eunice her niece, Lisa Ann Bellow Seneca of New Iberia and numerous great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred Smith her parents, Theodule and Martha Andrepont Cormier her brother, Joseph Rodgers Cormier her sister, Lillie Mae Cormier Bellow and her greatniece, Misty Layne Smitherman.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoins Funeral Home in Eunice on Monday, April 22nd from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm and again on Tuesday, April 23rd from 8:00 am until time of services. Deacon David Guillory will recite a Rosary at 6:00 pm Monday evening.
