BASILE A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Sunday, July 20, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile for Gilbert LeBlanc, 86, who passed away on Friday, July 18, 2008, at the Acadian Medical Center in Eunice. Rite of Committal will follow in St. Augustine Mausoleum with Fr. Brian Taylor and Fr. Cedric Sonnier officiating.
Gilbert owned and shared a business LeBlanc Appliance and Plumbing with his loving wife for 52 years. He was a veteran member of the American Legion since 1945, having served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was very active in the community being a member of the Lions Club, Alliance Club, Woodmen of the World, Mardi Gras Association, Swine Festival Association, Basile Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Basile Town Council, where he served as Alderman for two terms, a volunteer firefighter, and was an usher and member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. He was named Basiles 1997 March Citizen of the Month, crowned King of the Louisiana Swine Festival in 1984, and was inducted into the Basile Mardi Gras Hall of Fame in 1995.
A Loving Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, he is survived by three sons, Peter LeBlanc Sr. and Robert Don LeBlanc, both of Basile, Danny LeBlanc and wife, Debbie of Eunice; one daughter, Barbara Comeaux and husband, Leeander of Basile; fifteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. All who knew and loved Gilbert will dearly miss him.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Esther Marie LeBlanc; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alcia LeBlanc; two sons, Richard Ambrose LeBlanc and Randall Timothy LeBlanc; brother, Gurney LeBlanc; sister, Olla Mae Duhon; and a grandson, Gary Brent Comeaux.
The family request that visitation be observed at Ardoin Funeral Home in Basile on Saturday, July 19, 2008 from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. and again on Sunday from 8 a.m. until time of services. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Saturday evening.
Pallbearers for the services will be, Peter LeBlanc, Jr., Paul LeBlanc, Chris Comeaux, Timmy LeBlanc, Spencer LeBlanc, and Gerald Guillory. Readers will be his granddaughters, Vanessa Guillory, Kathryn LeBlanc, and Ashlyn LeBlanc. Other participates will be his daughters in law, Cheryl Vizena, Debbie LeBlanc, and Christine LeBlanc, and his grandson, Cade LeBlanc, as altar server.
