EUNICE~It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of George Sonnier announces his passing on the morning of Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Oaklane Wellness & Rehabilitation Center in Eunice at the age of 88. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 16, 2015 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice. Entombment will follow in the St. Paul Mausoleum with Msgr. Robert Romero Celebrant.

George, since childhood he enjoyed playing the violin and he loved to hunt. He was the President of Sonnier Auto & Truck Center from 1972 to 1996 as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus and ushered for years at St. Anthony Catholic Church. But most of all, George adored his wife and family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a supportive, giving and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be very deeply missed especially by his wife of 63 years, Ella Sonnier; his son, Rodney Sonnier and his wife, Nikki and his sister, Wilda Leger all of Eunice. He was a wonderful and loving grandfather to four grandchildren, Kellan Sonnier, Katelyn Brown, A1C Bethany Sonnier, and Dominic Sonnier; four step grandchildren, Gary, Brandon, Brent, and Quinten Swann; as well as nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Rodney Joseph and Agnes Aguillard Sonnier; and two brothers, Hilary and Elry Sonnier.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Eunice on Thursday, January 15th from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm and again on Friday, January 16th from 8:00 am until time of services. Deacon Gary Gaudin and Deacon Chuck Ortego will recite a Rosary at 6:00 pm Thursday evening.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family for the purchase of tabernacle candles and hardware at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice in his memory. Donations may be mailed to 1320 West Elm, Eunice, LA 70535.
