Geneva Bergeron Manuels sunrise was September 21, 1933. Her sunset was Thursday, July 24, 2014. Her celebration of life will begin with visitation at Ardoins Funeral Home on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at 4:00 pm with a RosaryScripture Service at 7:30 pm with Deacon Gary Gaudin presiding. On Monday, July 28, visitation continues at 8:00 am until 9:30 am. The Mass of Resurrection will be at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church at 10:00 am, with Fr. Keith Pellerin, celebrant.

Mrs. Manuel was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and loyal friend. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Pamela Manuel Fontenot and her husband, Rocky two sons, Kris Elliott Manuel and his wife, Christina, and their two daughters, Victoria Manuel Larsen and her husband, Brent, and Allison Manuel Jamie Doxie Manuel and his wife, Vickie, and their two sons, Tyler Broussard and Cole Manuel. Granddaughters, Kelli Manuel Taquino and her husband, Kyle Jessica Manuel and fiancee, Robbie Bradshaw, and their children Preston, Jackson Blair, and Rylee Lane Bradshaw and Ashley Manuel. Two additional great grandchildren: Julianna and Amelia Broussard one brother, Nelson Bergeron, and two sisters, Virginia Bergeron Miller and Vern Bergeron Weeks.

Mrs. Manuel is preceded in death by, her parents, Ernestine Lacasse Bergeron and Adeus Bergeron three sisters, Rose, Elrena, and Lela Mae brothers, Justin, and Elmen Bergeron her husband of 60 years, L.D. Joseph Manuel one son, Keith Blair Manuel.

Mrs. Manuel was born in Iota, La. She was a 1952 graduate of St. Francis Catholic High School in Iota, La. She attended LSU for several semesters. She was a 1991 graduate of Savoy Medical Center School of Nursing Assistants. She was a Preschool educator for forty five years. Geneva was a true teacher at heart. Her interest in teaching began when she was a mother with a station wagon who toted neighborhood kids home after they visited with her own children. She shared her enthusiasm and joy for life with the 3yearolds of the city of Eunice. Today, if a citizen of Eunice is inbetween the ages of 8 and 45 yearsold, chances are they were taught by her at her Humpty Dumpty Nursery School. In addition, for thirty years, she served as a member of the Just for Twos and Children Helping Children scholastic programs were she was named PreSchool Educator of the Year. She also worked as a supervisor in the J.T.P.A. Summer program, counselorsupervisor at LSUE Catholic Student Center, as well as the McNeese Catholic Student Center.

Mrs. Manuel was also very involved and devoted to life of the Catholic Church at her parish, St. Anthony of Paduas Catholic Church in Eunice, La. In 1988, she was encouraged by the pastor to serve as the first woman president of St. Anthonys Parish Council. She also served as a lector and an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. She was a 55year member of the Eunice Catholic Daughters 208, and was selected as Grand Regent from 197375. The Catholic Daughters of America selected her as the Catholic Daughter of the Year in 1975. At St. Anthonys Catholic Church, she and her best friend, Hilda Carrier served as counselors for the Happy Days program. In addition, Geneva and her husband, L.D. were PreBaptism instructors for young couples preparing to celebrate Baptism with their children, and they also served as leaders of the Confirmation program. Geneva was also a member of the Omega Group, the Ladies Altar Society and the diocesan tutoring program. She worked with childrens liturgy at the 11:00 am Mass. She served as a member of St. Anthonys funeral choir. She was a committee member of St. Anthonys Centennial Celebration. In 197576, she received the Community Service Award, and was featured in the Personalities of the South. She also served on the Lay Advisory Board at Our Lady of the Oaks Retreat Center in Grand Coteau, La.

The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and staff of Lafayette General Hospital, namely Dr. Jody Rosson, and to the staff of St. Josephs Hospice in addition, to her neighbors and friends who loved her so well.

Donations may be made to the Blair Manuel Scholarship Foundation at LSUE as well as St. Judes Childrens Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
