EUNICE-It is with great sadness that the family of Eursey Joseph Brown announces his passing on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at MeadowBrook Specialty Hospital in Lafayette surrounded by his loved ones. He was 91. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at 1:00 pm. Entombment will be at St. Paul Mausoleum with Father Sonny Brown Celebrant and Father Darren Eldridge Con-Celebrant.
He was a United States Veteran of the Army having served in World War II and a receiptant of the Purple Heart. The things that brought joy to Eursey known as E.J. or Pantal to all who knew him was being with his family and friends, his love for his motorcycle and was still riding until recently. He was a jack of all trades; he was a heavy equipment mechanic, welder, farmed rice and crawfish as well as a great joker and storyteller.
A loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, Eursey will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Vinice D. Brown of Eunice; his two daughters, Chris Brown Carrier and her husband, Eldridge of Lafayette, JoAnn Brown Burnett of Eunice; one brother, Dewey Brown of Eunice; three half brothers, Peter, Aubrey and Ricky Brown all of Eunice; one sister, Ruby B. Manuel of Groves, TX; four half sisters, Tressie Chamberlain, Deanna LaFleur, Izetta Darbonne and Cecile Dupelchain all of Eunice; his three cherished grandchildren, Shane Carrier, Jonathan and Daniel Burnett; his six special great grandchildren, Chase, Shelby and Cameron Carrier, Hayden, Lauren and Brycen Burnett. He left those who knew him with warm memories to cheer us and fill our hearts.
Now he rests in heaven with his parents, Tanzy and Ozena Rougeau Brown, his brothers, Chester, Burkeman and Ozay Brown; and his sister, Lily B. Leake.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoins Funeral Home in Eunice on Friday, August 28, 2009 from 2:00 pm until 10:00 pm and again on Saturday, August 29, 2009 from 8:00 am until time of services. Father Keith Landry will recite a Rosary at 7:00 pm Friday evening.
