EUNICE- It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Ethel P. Manuel on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loved ones at the age of 92. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 am on Friday, August 16, 2024, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Eunice. Burial will follow in the St. Paul Cemetery with Father Sam Fontana, Celebrant.
Ethel was born in Eunice, Louisiana on December 15, 1931, to Thomas and Elvina Gaspard Picard. Ethel's legacy shines brightly through her dedication to her family and her work as the owner and operator of The Flower House in her hometown where she worked alongside her beloved daughters and family for many, many years. Ethel was a devout parishioner of St. Thomas More Catholic Church where she was a member of the Ladies Altar Society. She was also a past member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Sulphur. Ethel loved to have a good time, and she enjoyed fishing and camping. She also loved to cook and made the best homemade fried chicken in south Louisiana.
Ethel will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her children, Raymond Himel and wife, Pat of Sulphur, Thomas Himel and wife, Suzanne of Ocala, FL, William “Billy” Manuel and wife, Kim of Lake Charles, Jennifer Gale Castille of Eunice, Cora Cole of Eunice, Laura Thibodeaux and husband, Mike of Lake Charles, Sandra Reed of Kinder, and Janette Fontenot and husband, Joe of Eunice; son-in-law, John Bergeron of Eunice; twenty-four grandchildren, thirty-eight great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; as well as extended family and dear friends.
Ethel is preceded in death by her husband, Malta Manuel; her daughters, Christina Manuel and Susan Bergeron; her infant children, Mary Boulet and Paul Himel; her parents; and brothers, Jessie Picard, Thomas Picard Jr., Joseph Picard, and James Picard.
The family will receive friends for visitation at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Eunice on Thursday, August 15th from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm. Additional visitation will take place on Friday, August 16th from 8:00 am until the time of services. A Rosary will be prayed by Mrs. Pam Reed on Thursday at 6:30 pm.
