Eunice-A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Mowata for Edison Ortego, 74, who passed away Sunday, August 19, 2007 at Flannery Oaks Nursing Home in Baton Rouge, LA.

Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Mowata, with Rev. Tarsisius Puling, SVD officiating.

A resident of Denham Springs and a native of Basile, Mr. Ortego was a retired electrician and a retired Navy Veteran, having fought in the Korean War.

Mr. Edison is survived by his wife, Audrey K. Ortego of Denham Springs; two sons, Michael Wayne Ortego of Lafayette and Ronald Anthony Ortego of Basile; three daughters, Mary Jo McKee of Bridge City, TX, Susan Wilhelm of Abbeville, and Greta Anacker of Denham Springs; one step-daughter, Karen Sullivan of Denham Springs; one step-son, Randy Gremillion of Port Vincent; 11 grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren.

His parents, Willis and Dell A. Ortego; first wife, Greta J. Ortego; and one brother, Elvin Ortego, preceded him in death.

The family request that visitation hours be observed at Ardoins Funeral Home in Eunice on Monday, August 20, 2007 from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm, and on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 from 8:00 am until 9:00 pm, and again on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 from 8:00 am until time of services. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Tuesday evening.
A Memorial Service will also be held Friday, August 24, 2007 at St. Immaculate Conception Church in Denham Springs, LA from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
