EUNICE-Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 16, 2006, at St. Anthonys Catholic Church in Eunice for Dr. Sylvan Manuel, Sr., 75, who died Monday, November 13, 2006, at Opelousas General Hospital

Interment will follow in the St. Paul Mausoleum in Eunice with The Rev. Msgr. Harry Benefiel Celebrant and Father Tom Voorhies Co-Celebrant.

Dr. Manuel is a long time member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. He received his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University in 1950 and later the L.S.U. Medical School in New Orleans in 1956. Dr. Manuel opened his practice in Eunice in 1957 until his retirement in 2002. During that time, he was involved in many different organizations serving in various capacities. Some of his accomplishments include, Past Chief of Staff of Moosa Memorial Hospital, St. Landry Parish Coroner for 12 years, Past President of the Louisiana State Coroners Association, Past President of the St. Landry Parish Medical Association, member of the Louisiana State Hospital Board, Southern Medical Association, Louisiana State Medical Association and the L.S.U. Medical School Committee of 100. Dr. Manuel also served on the St. Landry Parish School Board for 10 years, as well as the Board of Directors for the Tri Parish Bank.

Survivors include his loving wife Belle Losavio Manuel of Eunice; a son, Sylvan Manuel, Jr. and wife, Judy of Eunice; two daughters Patti M. Caswell and husband, Gerard of Eunice, Ingrid Manuel of Madisonville; a half brother, Dr. Reginald Segar and wife, Kathleen of Eunice; four grandchildren, Holly Manuel, Adam, David and Mark Caswell.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jan Clothilde Manuel; parents, Lasime Manuel and Clothilde PreJean Manuel Segar; step-father Henry Segar.

Visitation will begin on Thursday, November 16, 2006, at the St. Anthonys Catholic Church at 1:00 p.m. until time of services. A rosary will be recited in the church at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.
