EUNICE~Dorothy Summerlin, age 87, passed away Thursday March 19, 2015 at Oak Lane Nursing. She was born March 23, 1927 and affectionately called "Tee" by all who knew her.
Dorothy was married to J.B. "Johnny" Summerlin until his death in 1973. Together they had six children. Jean Summerlin Tanner, Harry B. Summerlin, and wife Jeanie of Eunice, Louisiana; Archie Summerlin, and wife Phyllis of San Antonio, Texas; Damien Summerlin; Michelle Summerlin-Yergan of Saratoga, New York and Renee Fleming and husband Perry of Mascoutah, Illinois.
In addition to her children she was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy raised her children and then went on to care for countless other children as the cook for a local daycare. She was a member of a local rosary group, bowling league and cherished her years as the Director of Aerobics for the elderly at the Eunice Community Center. She gave her life to love and serve her family, friends and community and she will be missed by all.
She is preceded in death by parents Dewey "Shorty" and Edith Young Ransom, husband J.B. Summerlin, daughter Jean Tanner, son Damien Summerlin, brother Don Ransom and sister Jeanette DeCuire and Betty Richard Blair.
At the request of the family visitation will be at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Eunice on March 23 starting at 8:00am until the time of services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 1:00pm at St. Anthony of Padua in Eunice with burial to follow at Mt.Calvary Cemetery with Father Dustin Dought Celebrant. Deacon David Guillory will recite a Rosary at 10:00 am.
Memorial donations in the name of Dorothy Summerlin may be made to St. Edmund Catholic School of Eunice, Louisiana or a charity of choice.
