EUNICE-Hearts filled with sadness, the family of Dewey Joseph Brown of Eunice announces his death on Wednesday, September 09, 2009 at the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jennings at the age of 88. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice at 10:00 am. Rite of Committal will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Father Clint Trahan Celebrant.

Dewey was born on June 01, 1921 to Tanzy and Ozena Rougeau Brown in the Faquetaique community. In 1940 at the age of 19, he married his sweetheart Audrey Hebert at the age 14 in the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Chataignier. They were married for nearly 69 years. He was a United States Veteran of the Navy having served aboard the LST 748 during the World War II from 1942 to 1944. He received the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Ribbon with 2 stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 star. After the war, he became a welder known as Lefty and followed the pipeline across the United States and abroad. He retired in Eunice and became a gardener noted for his tomatoes and sweet corn. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird-watching, training dogs and joking with people. He was an outdoor adventurer and enjoyed people, the land, and animals.

Dewey will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Audrey Hebert Brown of Eunice; his two beloved children, his daughter Sheila Brown Landreneau and her husband, John Pat Landreneau of Eunice; his son, Dewey Tim Brown of League City, TX; his two cherished grandsons, Lonny Todd Landreneau and Jody Patrick Landreneau; his two special great grandsons, Cole and Luke Landreneau; his sister, Ruby Brown Manuel of Groves, TX; four half sisters, Tressie Chamberlain, Deanna LaFleur, Izetta Darbonne, and Cecile Duplechain all of Eunice; and three half brothers, Peter, Aubrey, and Ricky Brown all of Eunice.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tanzy and Ozena Rougeau Brown; his brothers, Chester, Burkeman, Ozay, and Eursey Brown; and his sister, Lily Brown Leake.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoins Funeral Home in Eunice on Friday, September 12, 2009 from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm and again on Saturday, September 13, 2009 from 8:00 am until time of services. Deacon T.J. Richard will recite a Rosary at 7:00 pm Friday evening.
