EUNICEA wonderful father, grandfather and friend, Chester, age 87 and of Eunice, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 05, 2010 at the Acadian Medical Center. Funeral Services will be Celebrated at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, July 06, 2010 at Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel in Eunice. Entombment will follow in the St. Paul Mausoleum with Father Cedric Sonnier Celebrant.

Mr. Smith began his working career as a rice farmer in Savoy, LA, retiring in 1966. He then went on to work as a St. Landry Parish deputy sheriff, a teacher for older boys at the Eunice Guillory Developmental Center, and again retired as a school bus driver for bus 28. He was loved and respected for his honesty and kindness by all who knew him. An avid gardener, he even had a giant banana pepper named in his honor as the Smith Pepper.

Chester is survived by his two loving daughters, Brenda S. Fontenot and her husband, Nasen Jr. of Ville Platte, and Sandra S. Phillips and her husband, Frank of Baton Rouge and one grandson, Benjamin Fontenot of Baton Rouge.

Now he rests in Heaven with his beloved parents, Avie and Rosa Smith his loving wife of over 60 years, Esther Lou Rougeau Smith one brother, Ados Smith and four sisters, Sester Gil, Essie Fontenot, Irene Sonnier, and Hazel Lantz.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoins Funeral Home in Eunice on Tuesday, July 06, 2010 from 9:00 am until time of Services. A Rosary will be prayed at 2:30 pm Tuesday before Services.

Special thanks from the family to Doctors Zeb Stern and Alan Butler, the staff of Hospice Compassus and the staff at Acadian Medical Center, for both the professional dedication and personal friendship shown to Chester during his illness.
