EUNICE-A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 1:00 pm Wednesday, October 01, 2008 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Eunice for Calvin Red Cormier, 82, who passed away on Monday, September 29, 2008 at his residence. Rite of Committal will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice with Father Cedric Sonnier officiating.
Red a native of Eunice was a ditching machine operator with Ashy Construction and with Soloco as a heavy equipment operator. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served in the Korea war and received several awards such as the Army occupation Medal Japan, Overseas Service Bar, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Ribbon.
A Loving father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, Red is survived by his three sons, Kenneth D. Cormier and wife, Diane, Russell D. Cormier and wife, Stephanie, and Bryan A. Cormier all of Eunice; three daughters, Linda C. Young and husband, Daniel Ray, Phyllis K. Cormier, and Priscilla C. Soileau and husband, Bobby all of Eunice; three brothers, Cary A. Cormier of Carlas, Silton J.B. Cormier of Scott, and Gus P. Cormier of Sulphur; three half brothers, Ova Cormier, Shelby Cormier and Silton Cormier; five sisters, Ella Mae C. Miller of Iota, Ruby M. Stoute of Iowa, Bernice C. Martin of Vinton, Rena C. Spearing of West Lake, and Virginia C. Taylor of Iowa; eighteen grandchildren and forty one great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ovey J. Cormier and Agnes Daigle Cormier Ardoin; his wife, Mary Mae DeBlanc Cormier; three brothers, Elton B. Cormier, Leonard G. Cormier, Lee Lewis Cormier; and a sister Elta M. Cormier Fruge and a half sister, Velma Cormier.
Pallbearers are Kenneth D. Cormier, Jr., Christine Thibodeaux, Brandon Cormier, Rodney Gillard, Damien McGee and Jason Cormier. Honorary Pallbearers are Nicholas McGee, Kristopher Cormier, Keith Gillard, Justin Cormier and Scott Cormier.
The family request that visiting hours be observed on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at Ardoins Funeral Home in Eunice from 2:00 pm until 10:00 pm and again on Wednesday, October 01, 2008 from 8:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm Tuesday evening.
