BASILE-A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 11:00 am at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile for Burley Lee Sonnier, 81, who passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at Acadian Medical Center in Eunice. Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Augustine Mausoleum with The Reverend Father Bill Rogalla Celebrant.
Mr. Burley, a native of Basile was a long-time farmer and cattleman in the local area. He was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served during World War II and later became a member of the local American Legion James Rougeau Post 261. Mr. Burley was also a member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church and Woodmen of the World. He also served as Justice of the Peace for the Basile area for many years. All who knew Mr. Burley will sadly miss him.
A Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, Burley is survived by his wife, Vernita F. Sonnier of Basile; three daughters, Rebecca Duhon and husband, Gerald, Melissa Seilhan, Kathrine Sonnier all of Basile; three grandchildren, Jana D. Fontenot and husband, Cody of Scott, Ginger Duhon of Lake Charles, Jade D. Doucet and husband, Jerod of Basile; two twin great-grandsons, Jake Thomas and Seth Matthew Fontenot of Scott.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lucille Guillory Sonnier; three brothers, Wilfred , Clifford, A.C. Sguare Sonnier; two sisters, Irene S. Page, Vivian Sonnier; son-in-law, Paul Seilhan.
The family request that visiting hours be observed at Ardoins Funeral Home in Basile on Friday, May 23, 2008 from 2:00pm until 10:00pm and again on Saturday, May 24, 2008 from 7:00am until time of services. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Friday evening.
