EUNICEIt is with great sadness that the family of Burkman The General Manuel announces his passing on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Opelousas General Hospital at the age of 90. A Celebration of Life will be held at Ardoins Funeral Home in Eunice at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 24, 2010. Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Louis Cemetery with Rev. Doug Milliron officiating.
Burkman known as The General to all who knew him was a retired tool pusher and consultant in the oilfield. He serviced his country proudly in the United States Army Air Force as well as being a 2nd degree Mason for over 50 years. The joys of his life were his grandchildren who he loved to hunt with them. There are no words to describe The General. He was a man of great honor, good natured, giving, and caring. He touched so many lives in a positive and up lifting way. There was always a place in your heart for him. He will be greatly missed by everyone he touched. Burkman leaves behind his beloved wife of 61 years, Billie Manuel of Eunice his son, Billy Haristy and wife, Gloria of Crowley his daughter, Essie Dell Smith and previous husband, James Herman of Eunice his six grandchildren, Cathryn Matte and husband, Todd, Wayne Haristy, Sharon Haristy, Gregory J. Smith, Bruce P. Smith and wife, Heidi and Michael W. Smith and wife, Joni his eight great grandchildren, Taylor and Morgan Matte, Kirsten and Hunter Smith, Callem, Naomi, Cole and Nykell Smith. Also mourning his loss is his godchild, Betty Dailey and other family members including, James Pitre and wife, Jean of Lake Charles and their sons, Billy, Steven and John Pitre, Brenda Pitre Torrence and husband, Jean of Baton Rouge and their three children, Corey, Blake, and Leslie Torrence, and Melinda Pitre Boenig and husband, Kenneth of Basile and their three children, Kelly, Chris and Matt Boenig.
Now he rests in Heaven with his beloved parents, Adraste and Ella Fruge his brother, Lee Manuel and his sister, Corine Veillon and her late husband, Maxine.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoins Funeral Home in Eunice on Saturday, July 24th from 10:00 am until time of services.
