It is with heavy hearts that the family of Barney Allen Andrus, Jr. announces his passing on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at the age of 81. At the request of the family, visitation will be held at First Baptist Church in Eunice from 2:00pm until 4:00 pm on Sunday, March 30, 2025, with a Celebration of Life to follow at 4:00 pm. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery Pastor Andrew Bates officiating.
Barney, born on December 13, 1943, to the late Barney and Addie Durio Andrus, was a proud veteran of the United States Navy where he served his country as an Aviation Ordnance. He loved working as a chief welding inspector in the oil field and sacrificed many days away from his family, providing for them working all over the country. He had a hard time hanging his hat up. His job was truly a satisfying career for him . He spent his time in retirement hand making cypress furniture for family & friends until the progression of his Parkinson’s Discease no longer allowed him to do so. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was very active with the Senior Adult luncheon every month. He was also famous for his homemade biscuits. He loved sports. He particularly loved watching LSU and any sport that his grandchildren played. He was a man of few words, a gentle giant, and a supportive partner. He loved his family deeply and was such a great encouragement to them.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Andrus; sons, Cory Andrus and wife, Missy, and Kyle Andrus; step sons, Jeremy Frey and wife, Amber, Brett Frey and wife, Kate; step daughter, Maggie Frey Gaspard and husband, Eric; sisters, Betty Jo Foreman, and Rebecca Horner; brothers, Charles Andrus, Ronald Andrus, Robert Andrus and his wife, Rhonda, and Thomas Andrus and his wife, Rachel; brother in law, Tommy Knight; sister in law, Judy Andrus; grandchildren, Victoria Andrus Ashford and husband, Scott, Hunter Andrus, Caroline, Kathryn, and Vivian Andrus, Sara, Jolie, and Levi Frey, Douglas, Lizzy & Anna Jane Frey, Gracie, Jax, and Millie-Kate Gaspard; brother in laws, Michael Leger and wife, Karleen, Ricky Leger and wife, Brenda, Danny Leger and wife, Sharlene; sister in law, Cindy DeRouen and husband, Rene’; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Barney is preceded in death by his first wife, Connie Cooper Andrus; siblings, Julie Knight , Shelby Andrus, Gail Starnes, Kathleen Horvatic; brother in laws, Jay Starnes, David Horner; sister in laws, Irma Andrus, Patsy Andrus; parents, Barney and Addie Durio Andrus; grandparents, Cliff and Melissa Andrus and Jerome and Josephine Durio.
Pallbearers include Kyle Andrus, Cory Andrus, Hunter Andrus, Jeremy Frey, Brett Frey, and Eric Gaspard. Honorary pallbearers include Levi Frey, Douglas Frey, and Jax Gaspard.
