EUNICE-A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Monday, June 16, 2008, at 11:00am at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice for Albert Chapeaux Fontenot, 82, who passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at Oak Lane Nursing Home. Rite of Committal will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Father D. Blaine Clement Officiating.
Mr. Albert, a native of Eunice, La began working as a farm hand with his Dad until June of 1944 when he joined the United States Navy as a Seabee where he trained in Camp Perry, Virginia for 3 months. While serving during World War II, Mr. Fontenot was assigned to the 38th Battalion until June 03, 1946. He went on to achieve the ranks of first Petty Officer, 3rd Class, and later Motor Machinist Mate, 3rd Class. After the military, Mr. Fontenot returned to the area again working on local farms but soon after moving to the oilfield where he worked for many years. Then, from May 08, 1972 until his retirement on April 25, 1991, was employed at Louisiana State University at Eunice as a maintenance operator. Mr. Fontenot was also a member of the Woodmen of the World an was known by many as an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as visiting and spending time with his family and friends.
A Loving Father, Brother, Uncle, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, and Great-Great-Grandfather, Albert leaves to cherish his five children, Russell Fontenot and wife, Fabia and Norma Diaville and husband, Rodney all of Eunice, Dianna Armstrong and husband, Gary of Fairberry, NE, Priscilla Perkins and husband, Ed of Glendale AZ., CynthiaCindy Guillory and husband, Robert Keith of Lanse Megre, a daughter-in-law Diane Fontenot of Eunice; a sister, Geraldine Brown and husband, MarvinSonny Brown of Eunice; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; one precious great-great-grand daughter and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by wife of 52 years, Genevieve Cormier Fontenot; a son Charles Charlie Fontenot; his parents, Eave and Aline Blanchard Fontenot; his brothers, Dewey and Linus Fontenot; his granddaughter, Kim Diaville Ridout and his great-grandson Tyson Dade Soileau.
The family request that visiting hours be observed at Ardoins Funeral Home in Eunice on Sunday, June 15, 2008 from 9:00am until 10:00 pm and again on Monday, June 16, 2008 from 8:00am until time of services. A Rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm Sunday evening.
